NY Style Rye Crackers
“Looking for an alternative to the preservatives in commercial crackers, I began the quest to make my own.”
Ingredients:
- 1 cup
rye flour - 1 cup
all-purpose flour - 1 tablespoon
caraway seed - 1 1/2 teaspoons
salt - 1 teaspoon
onion powder - 1 teaspoon
garlic powder - 1/3 cup
canola oil - 1 teaspoon
honey - 1/4 cup
water, or as needed
Directions:
- Rye flour , all purpose flour , cumin , salt , onion powder , garlic powder and combine in a bowl . Stir in the vegetable oil and honey. While stirring with a fork , slowly add the water until the dough comes together in a ball . Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F ( 190 degrees C).
- Divide the dough into 4 portions , roll each piece of parchment paper to 1/8 inch thick. Cut into desired shape then place on a baking sheet . Prick each cracker few times with a fork.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the edges are brown and the crackers are crisp , 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately remove to a cooling rack .
